NUESTRO PRIMER MES EN IASI

NUESTRO PRIMER MES EN IASI COMO VOLUNTARIOS. 

BUENOOO!! Somos 2 españoles, Roser y Saúl que han venido a Iași por un voluntariado ofrecido por la Unión Europea como Erasmus + en la asociación PRO ROMA.

Nuestra aventura empezó el 31 de enero de 2022 cuando llegamos a la ciudad de Iași. Nos sorprendió el paisaje nevado que vimos desde el avión y la aridez de sus tierras. 

Nuestro primer contacto con la ciudad fue un choque cultural porque hay muchas diferencias con nuestras costumbres españolas. Una de ellas son las horas de las comidas, pero sobre todo, la hora de la cena, en la que en Rumanía cenan a las 18:00 - 19:00h, cuando en España lo habitual es cenar sobre las 21:30 - 22:00h. 

También nos sorprendió el Palacio de la Cultura, la Catedral Metropolitana "Sfânta Cuvioasă Parascheva" y el Ayuntamiento por sus diferentes estilos arquitectónicos comparados con España. Otra curiosidad es la religión, que tampoco es la misma que la nuestra, ya que aquí son cristianos ortodoxos, los cuales tienen otras costumbres, como por ejemplo, cada vez que pasan por delante de una iglesia ortodoxa se santiguan 3 veces de derecha a izquierda y con un gesto distinto a como lo hacemos en España, habiendo una diferencia ya que se hace de izquierda a derecha. 

Otra cosa que nos impresionó fue el descubrir un tranvía decorado con la bandera de España. Dentro estaba lleno de información sobre nuestras costumbres y tradiciones, aunque no muy acertadas en algunos caso. Pero lo que mas impacto fue la tapicería de los asientos, los cuales estaban cubiertos por una piel con el símbolo de la bandera de España y sus colores. 

 

Además, al tratarse de una ciudad universitaria, la vida social de esta ciudad puede ser interesante. Los lugares de ocio nocturno son bares - pubs, es decir, en los mismos se puede estar cenando y/o bebiendo mientras hay música puesta. En España esto es muy distinto, ya que los pubs son sitios donde solamente la gente consume bebidas y hay sitios para bailar. 

En cuanto a las actividades de la asociación, las primeras semanas han sido de adaptación y visita a los diferentes lugares donde vamos a desarrollar nuestro trabajo. 

Visitamos la zona o parte de la ciudad donde viven los gitanos rumanos, en la cual estos viven en condiciones desfavorables e insalubres. 

También hemos realizado diferentes visitas a un colegio, donde encontramos la escolarización de niños desde la escuela infantil hasta la ESO. En estas visitas ha sido importante la ayuda del mentor del colegio, el cual nos ha enseñado el funcionamiento y la distribución de las instalaciones para poder conocerlas mejor cuando trabajemos allí. 

Y por último, las actividades realizadas dentro de la asociación han sido conocer a los compañeros de una forma un tanto distinta, es decir, mediante la realización de "terapias de grupo" en los que la presidenta de la organización contaba una historia y los demás debimos dar nuestro punto de vista u opinión sobre las situaciones que se planteaban.

OUR FIRST MONTH IN IASI AS VOLUNTEERS. 

GOOD! We are 2 Spaniards, Roser and Saúl who have come to Iași for a volunteering offered by the European Union as Erasmus + in the association PRO ROMA.

Our adventure began on 31 January 2022 when we arrived in the city of Iași. We were surprised by the snowy landscape we saw from the plane and the aridity of the land. 

Our first contact with the city was a cultural shock because there are many differences with our Spanish customs. One of them is the meal times, but above all, the dinner time, where in Romania they have dinner at 18:00 - 19:00h, when in Spain it is usual to have dinner around 21:30 - 22:00h.

We were also surprised by the Palace of Culture, the Metropolitan Cathedral "Sfânta Cuvioasă Parascheva" and the Town Hall for its different architectural styles compared to Spain. Another curiosity is the religion, which is not the same as ours either, as here they are Orthodox Christians, who have other customs, for example, every time they pass in front of an Orthodox church they cross themselves 3 times from right to left and with a different gesture to how we do it in Spain, there is a difference as it is done from left to right. 

Another thing that impressed us was the discovery of a tram decorated with the Spanish flag. Inside it was full of information about our customs and traditions, although not very accurate in some cases. But what was most striking was the upholstery of the seats, which were covered in leather with the symbol of the Spanish flag and its colours. 

Also, being a university town, the social life of this city can be interesting. The nightlife is in the form of bars - pubs, i.e. you can have dinner and/or drink while there is music playing. In Spain this is very different, as pubs are places where people only consume drinks and there are places for dancing. 

As for the activities of the association, the first few weeks have been spent adapting and visiting the different places where we are going to carry out our work. 

We visited the area or part of the city where the Romanian Roma live, where they live in unfavourable and unhealthy conditions. 

We have also made several visits to a school, where we found the schooling of children from nursery school to ESO. In these visits, the help of the school's mentor has been important, who has shown us the functioning and distribution of the facilities in order to get to know them better when we work there. 

And finally, the activities carried out within the association have been to get to know our colleagues in a slightly different way, that is to say, by means of "group therapies" in which the president of the organisation told a story and the rest of us had to give our point of view or opinion on the situations that arose.
